DENIVA is a Ugandan Network of Non-Governmental and Community Based Organizations (NGOs/CBOs) providing a platform for collective action and a voice to voluntary local associations to strongly advocate for creation of more opportunities for people and CSO participation in the development of Uganda. It was founded in February 1988 by a group of Visionary leaders from 21 NGOs in Uganda. They recognized that the scattered efforts by voluntary local associations needed to be marshaled together for better impact and a collective voice. We had high rate of school drop outs in our village because parents were not encouraging girls to study; they had a feeling that a girl child was less valuable than a boy child.
