LIRUBO was started by eight members spearheaded by Andrew Muyingo. We started it to improve on the health education and vulnerability of orphans and vulnerable children in Mubende district. The members wanted to improve the education levels of community members of Bulera/Kassanda sub- counties in Mubende district through assisting the vulnerable children. The first project we undertook was rural based HIV/AIDS prevention, home based care and support in Bulera and Kassanda sub-county. This was funded by AIM/USAID in which over 150 children benefited in education assistance, 100 HIV/AIDS people benefited from home based care and 2,500 people sensitized in HIV/AIDS prevention. The organisation was started by a team of seven women to improve the lives of women in terms of income, health, education and financial support in the community. They initially began with conducting income generating activities; water and sanitation and HIV/AIDS mobilisation for testing and seeking treatment.
